Sheet Pile Wall Inspection
Accurate inspection with the UScanner
When a customer observed signs of land subsidence near a sheet pile harbour wall, they needed fast and reliable insight into what was happening below the surface.
Using UVision’s UScanner, mounted on a pole, the submerged structure was captured with high-resolution 3D photogrammetry. The resulting 3D model clearly revealed corrosion and breaches in the sheet pile wall, as well as severe soil erosion behind it caused by wave pressure and water seepage.
Left unaddressed, this type of damage can lead to structural failure, escalating repair costs, and increased safety risks. Thanks to accurate underwater 3D data, the customer gained a clear understanding of the problem and a solid basis for informed decision-making.
This case highlights how UVision’s UScanner transforms hidden underwater risks into actionable insight, helping asset owners intervene before issues become critical.
Damage assessment of sheet pile walls after vessel impact
Following a vessel collision with a harbour wall, Uvision deployed the UScanner to perform a rapid underwater inspection of the affected sheet pile wall. The UScanner captured a detailed digital replica of the structure, allowing deformations and local damage to be identified with millimetre accuracy.
The 3D model enabled engineers and asset owners to assess the extent of the damage without relying on diver-based visual inspections or manual video review. This provided a reliable basis for decision-making, repair planning, and documentation, while minimizing operational downtime and safety risks.
Monitoring the condition of sacrificial anodes
Sacrificial anodes play a critical role in protecting sheet pile walls and harbour structures from corrosion by gradually eroding over time. Ensuring that anodes are present and functioning correctly is essential for maintaining long-term structural integrity.
The UScanner support inspection of sacrificial anodes as part of routine underwater surveys. The high-resolution 3D model makes it possible to verify anode presence, assess remaining material, and detect uneven or accelerated corosion. By comparing scans over time, asset owners gain objective insight into anode consumption rates and can plan timely replacement before corrosion affects the primary structure.
